Raise your hand if your blood type is Coffee.

Can you see my hand raised all the way over here?????!!!!!!!!

Guys, it’s a pretty well known fact that I absolutely love love LOVE coffee, so when I say it is my blood type, I’m fairly certain that it’s the truth. I drink it as soon as I wake up…..I drink it throughout the day….and pretty much every barista in a five mile radius knows me by name and my order of choice. I’m not ashamed; coffee is my spirit animal and with it I am a magical sparkle-slinging girl boss.

Everywhere I go I try to scout out amazing local coffee shops or companies that are independently owned, have a fun story behind them, and aren’t your run of the mill corporate chain. In my world, it’s all about supporting small businesses. Don’t get me wrong, I do love my Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts…..but if I have the choice of one of those two or a local company, I’m going with that local biz. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

Awhile back I was trolling Instagram and checking out some different hashtags related to (you guessed it) coffee, when I stumbled across a business that had me at hello: Bones Coffee Company (Make sure you drop everything and follow their IG by clicking HERE!).
Another fun fact you may/may not know about me: I love skulls and skeletons, so when I saw the name and logo I just HAD to buy some of their coffee.

But then…..then I started to look through their website and the love at first sight feeling was solidified. They had a Chocolate Orange Coffee. CHOCOLATE ORANGE!  French Toast! Peanut Butter and Jelly….and so many more! Did these people jump into my brain and steal all my favorite things then go make a coordinating coffee???!!!! It sure seemed so.

Thus, a love affair was born.

Let me tell you all of the reasons why I love this coffee company:

1. The flavor selection is unparalleled. As someone who loves flavored coffee, I’ve never found an extensive flavor selection like the one that Bones offers. Besides the flavors available every day, they have amazing seasonal flavors, such as my personal fave Red Velvet (available around Valentine’s Day) and Carrot Cake (available for a few more days). Take some time and check out their website HERE. Isn’t the flavor selection insane???!!!!

My current Bones collection.

2. You have the option to buy a sample pack. Even though I was incredibly excited after surfing their website, I was still a little worried the coffee may not be as good as I had hoped. Luckily, they have a five pack option where you can select 5 sample packs and try a variety of flavors that you can choose. The sample packs are a decent size, which truly gives you an opportunity to determine the flavors you like best before buying the full size coffee.

3. Fast shipping. You know how to really win me over? Killer customer service and shipping. I tend to lack patience when it comes to waiting for items I can’t wait to receive…I can’t help it! The day I ordered my sample pack I had an email a few hours later stating it shipped, and just a few days later I opened a mail box with a wonderful coffee aroma. Was that an isolated incident? Nope. Every order I have placed since then has been shipped and received within a few days, and everyone who has ordered thus far on my recommendation has commented how impressed they are with the speed of their orders arriving as well.

4. You can purchase ground or whole bean. It may be weird to some, but some days I prefer using whole bean coffee and grounding it myself. I also use whole coffee beans as a base for all of my makeup brushes (I love having my makeup room smell like coffee) so I love having a wonderful flavored aroma in the air.

5. Clever packaging. I LOVE a solid marketing strategy, but when there are some clever references or pop culture humor infused, I am SOLD. Check out my personal favorite…..does this skeleton look familiar?

6. You can drink your coffee in style. I love a solid handmade mug, especially unique shapes. The minute I saw the gorgeous mugs on the Bones website, I had to have one, and it has quickly become my favorite mug. If you are more of a travel mug style person, they have those as well, plus apparel.

7. K-Cups! I was so excited when I saw Bones offered K-cups. I obviously make my own coffee at home, but when I go to my kickboxing studio I like to have coffee options on hand, so K-cups are the way to go for me. I always have them in my purse or gym bag.

8. They always have a fun deal or promotion going on. Had it not been for a recent promotion where every purchase received an additional random sample, I would’ve never fallen in love with Red Velvet or their Jamaican flavor (Kyle’s favorite). Recently I received a decal from them with a purchase and proudly rock it on my planner which goes with me everywhere.

9. New flavors happen often. Recently Bones released a Bluesberry Coffee that is beyond incredible….it smells just like a blueberry muffin. My hope is one of these days some type of doughnut inspired coffee is introduced..you guys all know that the doughnut is my second love right behind coffee.

10. The Bones staff is amazing. I have loved getting to chat with those involved with Bones and was very excited about their willingness to let me learn more about their company and share the info with you. I admire their entrepreneurial spirit and how innovative they are in an industry where a lot of companies are afraid to push boundaries.

Cheers to this fab coffee company!

I asked the Bones crew to answer some questions I had…..here’s what they had to say:

How did Bones Coffee get started? We are a family owned and operated business with roots in the Pacific Northwest, where we were deeply submerged in an artisan coffee culture. When we relocated to Southwest Florida, we wanted to bring that culture with us and launched Bones Coffee Company with the goal of making delicious, freshly roasted artisan coffee accessible to everyone.

How did you come up with your name? We wanted to project the vibrance and edginess of our flavors on our packaging. When we were developing our first variety, High Voltage, we imagined a skeleton in a lab concocting the highly caffeinated brew. Our brand name really developed from that point and Bones, our beloved mascot, has been present on every label (in some form or another!) since.

What makes your coffee different from others on the market? We really wanted to bring our customers coffee that they couldn’t buy at the local grocery store, and we also wanted to ensure that each bag is of the highest quality – so we roast to order in small batches. I think another thing that really sets us apart is that we provide the coffee drinker a really unique experience from the aroma of the coffee when they open the box, to the distinct artwork on each label, to the robust flavor from a freshly brewed cup.

Where are you based? We’re owned and operated out of Cape Coral, Florida!

Are you only a retailer, or are you found in any coffee shops? Bones Coffee Co. is currently online only, but we just recently rolled out a wholesale program and our coffee is starting to show up in gyms, restaurants and other specialty shops.

What is your #1 selling coffee? Maple Bacon! It’s sweet and smoky – an irresistible flavor combination!

How often do you change flavors? We’re constantly trying to come up with new, innovated flavors that people haven’t tried yet with coffee. We aim to release a new one each month, but it really depends on when inspiration hits!

How do you determine what new flavors would be? We base our flavors off of things we love! Then we try and come up with a way to make it work with coffee. It’s a lot of trial and error and testing so that we bring only the best to our customers.
Do you sell anything else besides coffee and mugs? Yes! We’re always trying to expand our offerings due to high demand, but we currently carry tumblers, hand thrown mugs by Deneen Pottery, decals, hoodies and t-shirts!

Describe your coffee in three words: Ultimate. Coffee. Experience.

Thanks so much, Bones, for your amazing coffee and customer service! Now let’s do something fun together………

Rock the Reset: Day 17-18

Today is Day 19.

DAY FREAKING NINETEEN!!!!!

The end is so close I can taste it!

Let me recap the past two days for you.

For some reason, I am still more focused this week than I have the previous two weeks. I swear, people in my life have been tempting the heck out of me, but I have not fallen victim once. NOT ONE CHEAT…not ONE!

I ended up changing up my meal plan a little bit because i fell so in love with the Coconut Collard Greens that I have been eating them with every dinner…..you have to try them. I’m already working on my meal plan for next week and guess what….they are making an appearance again!

I’ve been chatting with a lot of people about my Ultimate Reset experience lately….so many people have questions about what I’ve been doing. Here’s a few answer to the questions I have been getting the most:

1. How am I surviving without coffee?
To be honest, I am still riding the struggle bus with this…..coffee is such a huge part of my daily routine, and I can’t begin to tell you how many times I have gone to grab a mug from the cupboard and make a cup. I thought for sure I would cheat and have a cup at least once, especially with all my travel….I pass Dunkin and Starbucks on nearly every trip. Not giving in to coffee is something that I am extremely proud of myself for doing. I’ve saved a lot of money by not stopping, I will tell you that.

2. Have I been using my pre workout, Energize?
No. Energize is all natural, and some people claimed to have used it while on the UR. Since I was only doing yoga, I didn’t feel like I needed the extra jump on my workout. You better believe I’ll be back at it Monday. I love that stuff!

2 Days Left of Yoga!

3. What has been the hardest part of the Reset?
For me, not doing intense workouts. I know a lot of people love yoga…bless your hearts….but it isn’t for me. All of us have workouts we love and workouts we don’t connect to as much….this just happened to be that workout for me.

Besides the fact that I love high intensity workouts and a solid sweat, workouts truly are therapy for me. Ever since my dad passed away, I have relied on my workouts to help me feel better. They put me in a good mood and give me a sense of accomplishment, plus I know my dad would be proud since he was always very focused on living a quality, healthy life. My mood has been very much a roller coaster, and I’ve been more depressed over these few weeks than I have for a long time. I truly feel like this is tied directly to exercise.

4. Am I really eating only fruit for breakfast?
Yes, yes I am, and I actually like it. Since I have always struggled with my purple containers, this helps me get them in early. I also have all day to burn them off, which is great because of the slow to digest sugar found in it, as well as the carbohydrates.

Screen Shot 2017-03-31 at 7.36.31 PM.jpg

5. What am I craving?
I have no idea why, but Filet O Fish sandwiches from McDonalds. I don’t even like them, but they have been on my mind 24/7. WTF. They say the foods you crave the most are the foods that are the worst for you…..clearly I am an example of this.

Screen Shot 2017-03-31 at 7.36.58 PM
The warmer weather has helped me get outside a bit more….the dogs love walks, and it makes me feel like I am kind of exercising when Im not really. I finally was able to break in one of my new pairs of shoes….how cute are these? Incredibly comfortable, too.

Hope you all are having a great Friday! Don’t forget, if you want to jump in my Operation: Fit-ish Online Challenge Group, deadline to register is Monday! Healthier Coffee for all!

I love coffee.

I love coffee a lot.

In fact, I’m pretty sure it’s my blood type.

Over the years my coffee style has evolved. Back in the day I actually hated it….yes, you heard right. I hated it. If I needed a boost I opted for pop instead of coffee. The taste of coffee was just….ugh! I’m not sure when I actually decided I liked coffee, but I can’t believe I used to choose that carbonated nastiness over my now favorite beverage!

In the beginning I would load my coffee up with flavored creamer and sugar to disguise the taste, then slowly started to cut back on all of those “add ins” I put into my cup. When I became a health and fitness coach, I started to pay more attention to how I was fueling my body. The creamers I loved….I was sad to find out how bad they were for me, but I knew that I couldn’t drink my coffee black. What in the world could I substitute for the fabulosity I had been using?

Here are some healthier alternatives to keep your coffee flavored and tasting great without loading it with unnecessary calories:

Coconut Oil and Extract: Coconut Oil has about a million uses, so I was excited when I added it to my coffee! Besides smelling like a beach,  coconut oil is great for boosting your immune system, increasing energy, and speeding up your metabolism! All you do is add one teaspoon of coconut oil, a splash of extract if you prefer (I love hazelnut), and blend in a blender or with an immersion blender. It makes it nice and frothy with a kick of extra flavor!

Coconut Oil and Unsalted Grassfed Butter: Also known as Bulletproof Coffee, I wasn’t sure how I felt about putting butter on anything besides toast, especially because I had read many articles sharing reasons NOT to drink bulletproof coffee.  However, I had read articles that shared how having your healthy fat early in the morning helped with focus and mental clarity, so I figured I would see for myself what the fuss was about. Blending the ingredients in with your coffee created a delicious latte , but I wasn’t a fan of cutting out other areas of my breakfast due to the nutritional content of the butter. Some people love this and drink it daily; my only recommendation is to do your research to see if it aligns with your current meal plan/diet.

Almond Milk/ Coconut Milk Creamer: I always have these on hand for my shakes so from a cost effective standpoint, I don’t need to purchase anything additional to flavor my coffee. Using a splash in your coffee with a bit of Stevia is a great way to add a little sweetness without the calorie overload (Sidenote: Stevia is all natural and a better alternative to sugar, but don’t use much…it is much sweeter than sugar).

Cinnamon: Replace your creamer with a teaspoon of cinnamon. This is my new favorite recipe, and it has a bunch of health benefits! Not only does it save you over 75 calories a cup, but adding cinnamon can help reduce cholesterol and blood sugar. Pay attention next time you are at Starbucks….you’ll see a cinnamon shaker at the coffee stand!

Make your own creamer: I used to follow the recipes for homemade creamer from Deliciously Organic, only I would use almond milk in place of the heavy cream. Making your own allows you to control everything that is in your creamer and the recipes make a ton!

Remember, everything is okay in moderation. Sometimes I indulge in regular coffee creamer (I love the Nestle Coffeemate Samoa flavor), but I don’t go overboard. Make smart choices…you don’t want to drink all of your calories!

All this coffee talk has me needing to brew another cup……or hit the coffee shop!

Happy Caffeinating!

Rave of the Week: Being a Good Witch

If you ever have to interact with me before 10am, there is one piece of information about me that you absolutely must know.

I need coffee.

Correction: You need me to have coffee.

I wish this was legit.

I very much like to get up early, and I very much like to be productive. Often I am doing work before the sun comes up….sometimes even holding conference calls where interaction is a must. When this happens, I am already about 3 cups in. I’m a busy person with deadlines, an Inbox constantly full of emails, videos to record, trainings to lead, meal plans to create, exercises to do….coffee is to me what gas is to a car. I don’t go without it.

During the month of May I had an amazing little surprise from Panera: free coffee for the entire month. I like having a My Rewards card, but to be honest, I don’t use it all that much because I pack my meals and stick to my meal plan. However, when I learned of this little gift from the coffee fairy, I took advantage of it every.single.day. In fact, I am now on a first name basis with the barista, Brianne, and I have a little morning gang I see daily that is composed of 4 gentlemen all in their 80’s. Panera, I love you and please, feel free to share this with me any time you wish. It absolutely was an amazing gift.

Coffee. It happens.

One day a few weeks ago I posted this picture on my Facebook to showcase my coffee cup cemetery (and my strong lipstick game). An acquaintance of mine messaged me and told me that I needed to stop drinking coffee because it was healthy. No, no it’s not, acquaintance. You clearly haven’t had your coffee and are not thinking correctly.

Go get yourself one of these IVs, sister.

Back when I didn’t care about my health, I had no problem ordering the fattiest drinks on the menu or overloading my coffee with those delicious creamers (hello, Samoa creamer….I am talking to you). However, I have learned about how bad some of those drinks are for you and have made modifications. I’m not saying I don’t enjoy a Gingerbread Latte from Starbucks here or there, but when I do I get my soy milk fix and drink them sparingly.

My favorite way to have my coffee involves the secret gem of the kitchen, coconut oil. Are you using it? Im serious, you should be. I use coconut oil for so many things that I probably should devote a blog to it so you can learn how versatile it is. My favorite use is putting it into my coffee. Not only do I love the taste, but it helps me avoid the “I need the sweet creamer taste” that I used to get back when I was going through creamer withdrawal.

Here’s how I make my coffee. P.S. You can use any kind of extract your heart desires, but I love caramel, hazelnut, and vanilla.

Hello, lover.

So back to my acquaintance telling me coffee wasn’t good for me. I’d like to share with you some of the health benefits so you can see for yourself that, just like milk, it does a body good.

Reasons why Coffee is the bomb.com.

Benefit #1: It increases energy levels so you don’t feel as tired.

Benefit #2: It helps boost your metabolic rate by as much as 11%….. meaning it helps you burn fat.

Benefit #3: It DOESN’T contribute to high blood pressure, like sodas do.

Benefit #4: It assists with the increase in adrenaline in the bloodstream.

Benefit #5: The smell of coffee decreases stress.

Benefit #6: It is a huge source of antioxidants and helps fight free radicals.

Benefit #7: It helps your memory…..moderate amounts of caffeine increases the size of the hippocampus, which assists with long term and short term memory.

Benefit #8: 200 to 300mg of caffeine helps your heart perform better by improving the blood flow.

Benefit #9: It helps reduce the risk of diseases such as cirrhosis, Alzheimers, diabetes, gout, liver disease, and cancer.

Benefit #10: It can help suppress your appetite .

Here’s to all of you whose blood type is also Starbucks. And based on the fact this blog entry is posting at almost midnight, someone better make sure I am caffeinated in the morning…..or else you may be seeing the Wicked Witch.

Found this online...so true.
