There are days when I have so much to write that this blog could literally be a dissertation. Other days my brain resembles scrambled eggs and doesn’t allow me to focus on one specific topic. Today is one of those days. Days like today usually warrant multiple entries and may appear a bit ADD, but I am 100% okay with that. After all, being kate-tastic does mean being a bit all over the place.
I sat down this week to blog on about ten different occasions, but something always interrupted my thought process. Today was no different. I returned home from a fun weekend in my hometown ready to blog about my rants and raves of the week (among other things), but found a few lovely interruptions were upon me. Not only was the cable STILL not working (thanks, Time Warner Cable), but my bathroom had flooded. Cool! There’s nothing I wanted to do more than clean up water. Oy vey.
After what seemed like an eternity, I finally retreated to my computer to check my emails, creep around Facebook, and catch up on the blogs that my friends write. As always, I checked my brunette BFF’s blog first, and I was pleasantly surprised to see her most recent entry to be an old school quiz. I fondly remembered the days of myspace when every other minute someone was posting a quiz about themselves so the world was made aware of every small detail of their life. For the sake of nostalgia and the fact that I wasn’t sure what I wanted to blog about, I have decided to ride Whit’s coat tails and complete her little Question Quiz.
1. In baseball each player gets a “walk up song” that plays on his way up to the plate. What song would you pick?
Since I love music, there are a handful of songs that I immediately considered to answer this question. I debated Seger and of course Scandal (“The Warrior” with Patty Smyth is one of my favorite motivational songs to run to), but ultimately I decided on Van Morrison. Not only do I love “Brown Eyed Girl”, but it is a happy and upbeat song, which is how I would like others to think of me. Especially when I am about to hit a grand slam and win the game…..
2. What’s the best thing that happened to you last weekend?
I’m going with this weekend since it is practically over.
Attending the Alzheimer’s Gala with my family. This event means so much to my family. We attend and donate because each one of us has been impacted by this disease, and we all want to do everything we can to eliminate others from having to deal with the sadness of losing someone to Alzheimer’s. While my grandmother is still very much alive, her memory has been lost, and she hasn’t been able to identify any of us for nearly a decade. Yes, we love getting dressed up, partaking in the Chinese auction, eating fabulous food, and listening to stories similar to ours, but deep down she is always there with us. We all miss her so much, and events like the Gala allow us to find comfort in knowing so many people in our area are there to help us in the fight to find a cure.
3. If you could have a starring role in any film already made, which movie would you pick?
I have to go against the grain here….it would actually be a Broadway play, not a movie. I love me some Broadway, and while I am tone deaf, I still enjoy belting out the musical numbers. My favorite….Wicked. There is no character I would rather be than Elphaba in this great play. Can’t you just picture me singing my favorite musical number, “Defying Gravity” just like Idina Menzel does?
4. What actor/actress would you have play you in a movie of your life?
Natalie Portman…because she is brunette, beautiful, funny, and also secretly a nerd….just like me. Plus I just love her.
5. What is your favorite quote?
“Always be a first rate version of yourself instead of a second rate version of someone else.”
I remember hearing this quote for this first time back in junior high, and it has always stuck with me. I have always been true to who I was, even when others didn’t agree or like it. I would never want to be like anyone else in this crazy world, and if people don’t like me for who I am, oh well.
6. What was your first concert?
98 degrees. No, I am not ashamed. I still listen to their music on Pandora, and you better believe I will go see them in concert this summer. How romantic are their songs?
7. What Internet website do you visit the most?
It depends on the day, but lately I’m on Facebook, Pinterest, Dlisted, and my newest guilty pleasure, okcgoldmine.com, the most. Thanks, DW, for hooking me on that one 🙂
8. Which of Snow White’s 7 dwarfs describes you the best and why?
I can’t be Snow White? I played her so convincingly back in 2007, and the costume still fits….
If I couldn’t be Snow White, I would 100% be Dopey. Not only did he wear bright colored clothing to stick out from the rest, but he is said to be the happiest, sweetest and silliest of all of the dwarves.
9. If you were on death row, what would your last meal be?
My favorite grilled cheese from Melt, coconut shrimp, and chicken and waffles with a side of bacon. For dessert, deep fried twinkies with a White Russian. Better throw in a dark chocolate sea salt bar, some Rolos, and deep fried pickles from Bricco. Let’s gain some weight before lethal injection!
10. What is the background of your computer?
On my Dell laptop, it is a picture with my dear little Simon. The joy he brought to my life is one that keeps me going even on the saddest of days.
On my Macbook, it changes, but it is usually one of my friends and I that makes me smile. Right now it is one of my dear friends, or wives as we call ourselves, Lisa, Amanda, and Lisa at Lisa V’s bachelorette party several years ago. Such a fun night…I love these women, and they always make me laugh. I miss getting to see them.
I love the randomness of this quiz. I hope you did, too.
